Decoupage is a craft technique sticking paper to a surface with glue. A very simple process yet a very fulfilling one. Decoupage art have been around every household as many loved the idea of easy and fun transformation of a bag, a box, or even a simple tray into something pretty with just the rice paper and the classic decoupage paper, scissor and glue then you have your new item at home re-decorated by you.
In the recent years, fluid art and then resin art just replaced decoupage in the scene. It was the time when everyone seemed to have shifted their hands working more on abstract pouring art and enjoyed colors, glitters, sparkles, textures and finish them with resin.
This is very evident here in the UAE when almost everywhere you can see fluid artworks, resin projects and workshops are vey much in demand. Aside from the fact that people are mesmerized with the results of their shiny, glassy handmade artworks, they are very much sellable. They found a hobby that makes them money. They invested on paints, materials and tools and of course the best resin they could get. At that time, the brand Resin Art were the on top and almost always sold out. Creativa even had that brand and undoubtedly the best during that “resin phase”.
But good news, Creativa still caters to pouring and resin art lovers, they stick with our brand called Pentart which also has the complete collection of resin tint, glass resin, sparkles, art micas, colored flakes, and more. Now, going back to decoupage, Creativa strong believes this has not vanished. Come to think of it, we still upcycle things, we redecorate a lot and we never stop creating mixed media art. Right? All these things, involve decoupage techniques for as long as one incorporates paper to its surface. We just simply can’t ignore the beauty of designed papers and we want them pasted onto anything we want to look pretty and NOT BORING.
Let’s say for example, a chest drawer in the corner of your room, your wooden jewelry box, maybe your worn out white rubber shoes. In one way or another we would want to keep them and re-do them. We see a pretty little rice paper and in just a few we have them anew.
With so many obligations at home, at work, at your community, it is important that we always do what we love to do, to see and to feel. Having to spend time crafting or in this case, doing decoupage will not only add beauty to your upcycling project but keeping you in a good mood, sort of away from the world full of chaos and noise. Who finds peace while enjoying decoupage? A very simple technique but does big within ourselves. Not to mention, when you do this, you get encouraging compliments, a beautiful view, and a creative and productive day. Who says upcycling is a thing? YOU… and me, and probably one or more from each household.
Indeed, decoupage remains!
